“Get busy living, or get busy dying”
This quote has never been more apt. It’s only now that I’ve sat down to write this review that’s it’s sinking in how the weekend has changed things, and the adventure that I’ve embarked upon.
When making the expensive decision to fly over 10,000 miles around the world to take the course with James and Rebecca, I was concerned that it might not meet my high expectations. I needn’t have worried. The whole weekend and the week that followed was full of conversations, fun adventures and tailor-made practical exercises and has already initiated a major change in my life.
The practical exercises, including approaching a seated girl and two standing girls in a lounge bar and noisier bar respectively, were fantastic. In my opinion the only way to really learn a skill is practically rather than theoretically. We were able to do this over and over again, and receive instant feedback. In particular, because the female trainers are pretty and intelligent, the exercises were very realistic and it made the “real” conversations much easier and fulfilling.
A couple of huge realisations for me were the importance of touch and managing energy, both of which arose during the exercises, and are things I wouldn’t have noticed by myself. A big positive of the course was that on the final day, we each spent extra time working on our individual sticking points and took away our own action plans; there was no broad-brush approach.
The commitment shown by James, Rebecca and the other female trainer throughout the weekend was faultless. I won’t lie, this was a very demanding weekend for everyone, but they maintained professionalism throughout which made me feel much more comfortable.
I feel that I’m now no longer in the position of having to scrap with everyone else for average girls. I can comfortably meet the higher-quality girls who I find both beautiful and intelligent, and I won’t have to settle for someone I’m not happy with.
I wouldn’t expect to become a great Muay Thai fighter after one weekend’s training, and similarly I will need to push myself very hard over the coming months to achieve what I want. However, the difference now is that I know I’m heading in the right direction, with a proper action plan and invaluable experiences to draw upon, so it’s not wasted effort.
Before the course, I wasn’t expecting to have lasting friendships with the other guys. How wrong I was! I spent the next week after the course hanging out with them (burning the candle at both ends!), learning loads but above all having a great time and forming new friendships.
I noticed that in that following week, lots more opportunities seemed to arise which I previously wouldn’t have noticed. I also went out alone on numerous occasions in order to use my post-course free time for extra practice. This pushed my comfort zone, I failed and succeeded as a result, but most importantly learned and it has proven to be incredibly useful.
So to sum up, thanks guys for an unforgettable experience, one which I believe will change my life. And thanks also for improving my literary and dietary knowledge!
